here. a wide swath of snow from the storm from west virginia into new england. as far as accumulations are concerned one to three inches from columbus and then into pittsburgh and new york city picking up a quick one to three inches through the afternoon when the snow arrives but then boston is where things get interesting as the storm rapidly strengthens off the coast. snow will intensify as we get through the day and then especially the coasts of new england, cape cod into boston we could pick up snow in the 3-6-inch range and then the storm continues to strengthen and drags in north and west temperatures only going to fall. as far as the temperatures right now quite cold across the midwest and thorn plains and we are at 18 currently minneapolis. for tomorrow here. and winter is certainly here and here to stay. that cold air will continue to filter in as we track on past new year's day and through the rest of next week. >> greta: jim thank you. i wonder if the weather will delay flights into washington for the fiscal cliff discussion this weekend on capitol hill. we'll

, it appears to many in the city that it's politico check mate for the president. if we go over the fiscal cliff, what it means is the taxes will go up on the wealthy, the big earners. it also goes up on the middle class. i assume the middle class will look to the rawp republicans foe fact that their taxes come up so political check mate. >> i'm not so sure. president obama could avoid that very simply by putting maybe two or three to one expenditure reductions on the table for revenue increases, something like sim responsibl simpson bow. he has a formula given to him by a commission he appointed and he's totally rejected that formula and presented to the republicans a program which was basically just a massive tax increase over and above the massive tax increase that's going to take place with the bush tax cuts expiring, so i don't see where there's -- he hasn't given them room to compromise. maybe if he had put his tax increases on the table and put up expenditure reductions of, you know, one and a half to one and republicans can negotiate it to two or two and a half to one, i mea

can the state do to try to help the city? one city council men last night said as a quid pro quo she wants the president to bail them out. what do you plan to do about detroit? >> we are going to continue working with the city. we did a consent agreement with them earlier this year that called for a number of actions to happen because we do need better services for the citizens of detroit. they deserve it. and we need to achieve results. the problem is the mayor and the city council haven't been able to get on the same page. we are going through the process now of saying if they don't get it done, we are going to start a review, hopefully next week, that will go on for 30 days to say if it doesn't get done, there are other actions, including emergency managers that we should be considering for detroit. so i'm clearly encouraging the city and the mayor to get these issues on the table, have them work together and get resolutions so we can move forward and get detroit growing again. >> explain to me the emergency managers. does that mean the state steps in and does the job for them? is
